Darwin

I got a new cat. My mom and dad decided to name him Darwin.

I wanted to name him Michael Phelps, but was outvoted.

Darwin is a little scared right now. She clawed Dad and he was bleeding all over.

Sledding

Dad and I went sledding at Art Hill. Obviously dad is out of shape. Just close your eyes and listen to him breathe and groan.

I had a lot of fun. We road together and I went by myself.

Parkway Meet

I went to my second swim meet at Parkway North High School. My Dad took me on Saturday. Unfortunately, my events weren't until Sunday.

This time I swam the 25 and 50 freestyle. This was the first time I did the 50 and I forgot to turn and go back.

I was a little scared because I was at a new pool, but I did great. Mom and Dad are really proud of how hard I try.

Afterwards we went to Red Robin to celebrate.

Christmas Morning

Swim Meet Me in St. Louis

I competed in my first swim meet yesterday. It was very cool. I swam in 25 backstroke and the 25 freestyle.

I didn't win either heat. In backstroke I kept looking back to make sure I wouldn't hit my head. Mom and Dad said that if I had just kept swimming I would have won.

In the freestyle I was the only 5 yr. old in the heat, but I still only came in a few seconds behind the other swimmers.

Hopefully, I will get to go again in January.

Swim-a-thon Fundraiser

I don't know if I have mentioned it, but I love to swim. Last night I told my mom and dad that when I am in the water I get energy.

My dad thinks that I may be the love child of my mom and the man from Atlantis (Patrick Duffy).

Last week we swam with the big kids. We got to do our own stuff and we dived. I like the freestyle the best.

But now I want to get the the heart of the matter. I swim for Clayton Shaw Park (CSP) which is part of U.S.A. Swim, the group that trains future Olympians. We need to raise money so we are having a swim-a-thon.

I didn't know if I would like soccer or not, but my mommy and daddy signed me up anyway. I ended up really, really loving it. My mom swore she would never become a soccer mom, but I'm so cute, she does a lot of things she swore she would never do.

My backpack was heavy today because I had all of my supplies. Today is my first day of kindergarten. This is my new backpack. It lights up. We already saw the Wall-E movie. I have my own hook for my stuff.

I meant to blog while I was a vacation, but my parents kept me too busy. We visited the Alamo and the Mission in San Antonio, went to baseball games in K.C., Arlington, and Houston, saw a baby turtle release, took a boat to see dolphins, and road horses on the beach. Every other minute of my time was spent in the ocean or the hotel pool. The beach was the best. I am also a junior ranger at the Padre Island National Coastline and the Mission in San Antonio.

Diving is great! I like to jump. One time the lifeguard told me I had to take my goggles off. I don't like getting water in my eyes. I even wear my goggles in the shower, but I took them off and went anyway. Cannonballll!

I LOVE Alton Brown, so I waited patiently (nearly three hours) to get his latest book, Feasting on Asphalt, signed. Everyone there was so nice. One of the chefs from L'Ecole Culinaire gave me a hat that Alton signed! I put right above my play kitchen set.

Horseback riding through Mammoth Cave National Park

If you're going to go horseback riding, you should do it in Kentucky, the home of horse racing! We did and had so much fun traveling through the trails in Mammoth Cave National Park.

Cowabunga Onondaga!

Everyone should visit Onondaga State Park! We had a blast looking at formations, lizards, and waterfalls. My favorite part, if the truth be told, was the gift shop where I found cool rocks, toys, and even a stuffed turkey vulture. In fact, my Daddy thought the vulture was so great, he bought it for me.

I had SOOOOOOOOOOOO much fun at Mommy and Daddy's Oscar party. We ate loads of popcorn and candy. Mommy and I made Ratatouille that we served to our guests then I watched the movies with my friends!

5 Minute Blizzard

Willa's Mommy and Daddy asked us to tag along with them on President's Day to the Chain of Rocks bridge to watch eagles which was really cool because we had never been. It was an ill-fated day. First we drove through a five minute blizzard. I was scared and excited at the same time. Then the bridge was closed. We ended up at Melvin Price Locks and Dam where Willa and I had a lot of fun driving barges, looking at maps, and simulating toilet flushes. Mommy and Daddy saw lots of eagles on our way to the Fin Inn in Grafton, IL. Despite the confusion, I really had lots of fun!

Moon Walk

I saw a fantastic play, The Emperor's New Clothes with Willa. I sat up front and even participated! We ate at the Maya Cafe afterwards where I shared even more giggles with my BFF. Her Mommy bought us these AWESOME matching shirts. I think they are super cool!

Doggy Blogging

Look at us having fun at the 2008 Beggin Strip Barkus Parade in Soulard! My Mommy knows that I love Underdog, so she made a special costume just for my dog, Katie. Although we didn't walk in the official parade, all the kids who saw her kept yelling, "Look! It's Underdog!" I wore my cape from my birthday party so we could be twins. Wow, did I had fun showing her off!

KC Fun

I loved the new addition to the Nelson Art Museum in KC. The ramps were cool and so was this neat sculpture found outside and on top of the new building. Below is a great picture of me and my cousins having great fun at Winstead's, only the best burger and shake joint west of the Mississippi.

A Slippery Slope!

I was so excited to see snow this morning. First we ate pancakes and did crafts with Santa at St. Roch's, then we headed out to Art Hill where we ran into a friend I had just seen at my school! We had a blast sledding down hill together (a few times ALONE even!!!) and throwing snowballs at each other. If it wasn't for Mommy, I might not have ever left!

Anyone Can Cook

My Cousin, Carly, and her cousin, Jack, had a great 5th Birthday with a Ratatouille theme! We made aprons and played games. Each kid made their lasagna, which proved that "Anyone can cook"!

Willa celebrated her third birthday with an awesome Wizard of Oz theme! I came dressed as the Lion, and Willa was Dorothy, of course! I pinned the tail on the lion, threw apples in a basket like in the movie, and skipped with Willa down the yellow brick road! Check out the other "cast" members of her party and this fun picture of Willa making a heart cake for the Tin Man. I had a lot of fun and am enjoying my Wizard of Oz coloring book I received at the party!

I had big fun with my cousins on the Loop Holiday walk. Like most kids, I'd never seen a yak or a zebra up close, and it was supercool. We also saw a movie, saw some belly dancers, gobbled down lots of cookies, and ate Ethiopian food afterwards!
Iron Age was giving snowman tattoos to brave kids. Before I was too scared to get one, but today I gathered my courage and let them put it on my arm!

The Buzz on Rocks

I had so much fun this weekend with mommy and daddy. Saturday we went to a gem and mineral show, but it wasn't very fun. Everyone kept yelling at me to not touch anything. I begged to go "rock hunting", so we found a geologist who suggested some cutoffs along highway M and 21. We found some FANTASTIC fossils, deer bones, and even a piece of large piece of quartz. I've been begging all week to go back.

These pictures were taken at Bee Tree Park. I was a little scared in the woods (too much Wizard of Oz???), but I had a great time anyway!!

I may have had the red jacket, but not the hood. I always have a great time with Aidan, and this day was no exception. We didn't get to ride the train, but we did get to eat at the boathouse and feed the ducks afterward.

Dia de los Muertos

This year my mommy wanted to celebrate the life of my great-uncle Tim by remembering him on this day of the dead. He died last year, making my mom sad. He loved to laugh, tell crazy, funny stories, and eat sweets. We spent Christmas with him last year. It meant a lot to my Grandpa Morton who called him his brother. We will miss him.

Trick-o-Treat till the neighbors die of fright

I had a Halloween Blast trick-or-treating with Willa. I saw all my friends from school, including Quinn. We ran from house to house until it was time to go home. Then I begged to go to sleep (it was only 7:30) and refused to wake up the next morning!

I went to my first official Haunted House. I saw guts and mummies, scarecrows and reapers, cousins and family. I had a lot of fun, but the best was "when we went to eat" at Bandanas afterward with Carly, Randa, Aunt Nancy, and Uncle Paul!

Camel Riders

There are more than just pumpkins at Eckerts. Check out Willa and I on this awesome camel. Willa's mommy, Christine, didn't believe it, but I've ridden several camels in my short four years and hope to ride many more. I also fed goats, rode on a cool train, and ate lunch with Willa. We played under the table, laughing and giggling all morning!

Going to Chicago for a day immediately after a huge vacation has become our family ritual. Last year we went to the Totoro exhibit at the Children's Museum because we found out about it the week before it closed. This year we headed to the Dino exhibit before it left town. The fossils were AMAZING and great follow-up to the pig dig!

Pig Dig in the Badlands!!!

What a fun day! I found out that there were no dinosaurs in the Badlands, and even though I asked why about 50 times, I still don't understand. I guess I'll have to trust Mommy, Daddy, the Park Ranger, the scientists, and the giant, seven foot signs that read "No Dinosaurs here." I'm not the only one who wanted to see T-Rex bones. Every kid at the visitor center was clamoring for them. Anyway, I can't pronounce paleontologist, but I sure thought they were pretty neat. It's fun to dig for pigs. Oh yeah, it was the first official Dirty Job I'd ever seen!

Baby Crazy Horse

Here we are at the Crazy Horse monument! It was the highlight of my vacation. I saw dancers, found some cool rocks, and took lots of cool pictures. Mommy and Daddy preferred Devil's Tower (Daddy kept looking for aliens) and the Badlands. Check out me swearing in to become a junior ranger!

Bad to the Bone

Park and Ride!

I love Mythbusters and Dirty Jobs. My dream is to one day meet Mike Rowe! So when I heard that the Discovery Store may have them for half-off, I was there! We walked to our Metrolink station (stopping at Kayaks for some waffles first) and headed to Union Station, the Arch, and over the river. Check out this cool Lewis and Clark statue, "The Captain's Return," if you are ever near the river!

Deathly Hallows

I was ripped off. As you can see I bear an uncanny resemblance to Harry Potter. Even when I am not in costume people will ask to take my picture. One time we were at The Boathouse and a lady came asked my parents if she could take my picture because I "look like a little Harry Potter."

So how could I not win the Harry Potter costume contest? Mom made the costume for me. She worked really, really hard. I lost to 3-month old baby with a leaf on its head. He was a mandrake root. There was also a girl that beat me, but she was obviously to old to be in my group.

All was not lost. My parents were very proud of me for going up on stage all by myelf. They were a little concerned when we first arrived because I kept hiding from all of the cameras. Oh did I mention that we could not go five feet without someone snapping my picture or saying, "how cute."

I also got to make an owl puppet, a magic potion, and a wand. We got to eat free ice cream and drink free pop. Dad and I also played chess, but I kept calling it checkers.

The EYE Doctor

I went to the eye doctor today. When my Mom told me we were going I was afraid because I thought I was going to get a shot in my eye. I didn't get a shot, but they did put drops in my eyes. I screamed and screamed. My Mom and Dad had to hold me down.

Before all of the torture I did get to play some games. I got to look at pictures of horseys, bears, boats, and houses on the computer. They kept getting smaller and smaller. I did really well. I have 20/20 visions in one eye and 20/25 in the other with my glasses on of course.

I also got to wear funny glasses and look at a flashlight. I wore another pair of glasses like when I went to see Meet The Robinsons. The doctors helper asked me which one of the bugs popped out. I got them all right.

After we were done I got a firetruck sticker and a sucker.

Clap, Clap, Clap Dog Show

I went to the neighborhood dog show today. I wasn't very interested. I really wanted to play in the park. Katie did win two ribbons. She was one of the friendliest dogs and she had a big spot. I saw my teacher Ms. Carmen. I said, "Ms. Carmen, you go to my school."

I played a game with other kids on the sidewalk.

On the way home we saw a racoon in the sewer. We were all tired so I gave Katie an umbrella and I took a nap on the porch.

Party Time

I went to Gianni's birthday party today. It was a Swing Around Fun Town. It was just me and my dad because Mom had to go to Chicago for a conference. My friends Alex and Vito were there. I spent the first 30 minutes reminding them all that they went to my school.

I got to ride in a bumber boat with Alex. I also tried riding a go-cart, but my steering left a lot to be desired. The girl that worked there helped me out.

I got hot so my Dad bought be a drink. We also got to play golf. Here I am trying to sink a hole in 20.

Tattoo you

Daddy's Day

The Art Museum had animals to sketch on Father's Day! Here I am with a live South African turtle that was just roaming around. At first I was scared, but I got over my fears quickly!

Later, we actually went inside, where I visited two more of my favorite things, buddhas and shiva.

Horseback Riding with Willa!

Thanks to Willa's mommy, Christine, mommy and I rode horses in Cedar Hill, MO. I've ridden horses before, so when the horse jumped, scared of the locked up steer, I was calm and held on tight. After the rides, Willa and I saw the rabbits, chickens, and the goat in their stalls. Then we had lunch by the Big River and threw rocks in the pond (one of my FAVORITE things in the world!). I had a really, really great day!

Again, a big thank you to Christine for arranging the rides and bringing that great cheese!

I had a fantastic time with Ian at his campin' out birthday party on May 26th! I'm so sorry that Katie, our Border Collie, got sick because that meant that we couldn't stay the night. We'll just have to try again!

The Adventures of Superdude!

My mom and dad started calling me Dude when I was born, and sometimes they call me Superdude. This, along with my cape and Spiderman fascination, inspired my mommy to throw me this awesome party!
